About the committee

Committee

About the committee Environmental sustainability is becoming an increasingly relevant issue affecting the property industry. The green building requirements for new developments, energy management on new and existing properties, increased utility costs and the constant stream of new regulation are just some of the matters that require scrutiny and impact analysis. The SAPOA sustainability committee meets on a regular basis to discuss and debate sustainability issues as it pertains to SAPOA members and other industry players. A huge focus for the committee is new regulation and its impact. An Eskom representative attends the meetings to provide an update of the state of the grid. Various government bodies are also engaged and attend the meeting to present policy decisions and advise on new regulation.

We welcome attendance from other SAPOA members who perform functions at their organisations in the sustainability, energy management, utility recovery management or technical utility management fields. The current committee members are:

Eskom update

Eskom

On Wednesday 11 June, at approximately 17h30 two units at Duvha and Kendal power stations respectively tripped and a portion of the capacity normally imported from Cahora Bassa became unavailable. As a result, a reduction in electricity demand was required between 6pm and 8pm in order to balance the electricity system, which was implemented according Eskom’s load shedding schedule.
